As part of a deepening security relationship between Washington and Ankara in the region, an armed drone carried out a strike in Syria on Wednesday while Turkish jets pounded sites occupied by the designated terrorist organization PKK in northern Iraq.
The general Kurdish population in Turkey, however, have nothing to do with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
In an attempt to stop the confusion and distinguish Kurds from the PKK, Enes Bayraklı, a foreign policy researcher at the Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research (SETA), answered TRT-World’s questions on August 6, 2015.
Assistant Professor Bayraklı said that the majority of the Kurdish population voted for the People’s Democratic Party (HDP) to back-up the peace process. But, the PKK misinterpreted the June 7 election results as a clear approval of their policies, and exploited the peace process.
COMPREHENSİVE BATTLE AGAİNST DAESH (ISIS)
Following a U.S. drone strike in Syria, a “comprehensive battle” against ISIS is imminent. “The U.S. will soon bomb ISIS targets in the region, on the border, and then also moderate rebels will take over the area which will be used as a safe zone for refugees,” Bayraklı said on the expected operations.
