July 15th Was a Lesson for the Military

Aiming the civilians and bombing the parliament are terrorist tactics, not a military coup.

Talha Köse, researcher at SETA Foundation, stated that the last events looked more like a terrorist attack rather than a coup. Accordingly, the previous coups that happened in Turkey tried to take over the parliament but they did not aim hurting the people. Nevertheless, the last coup attempt aimed the people and bombed the parliament. This, followed also by the media support, encouraged the people and increased the peoples’ sensitivity towards this coup attempt.

According to Talha Köse the efforts OF Gülenists against the Turkish government have started since 17 – 25 December 2013, however, the coup attempt resulted in a unification of the people and political parties and in case that the government would continue acting within a legal framework this unification may consolidate even further.

Köse also stated that the government was planning to deal with the Gülenist threat within the military in August, for this reason the Gülenist supporters tried to take a step which would change the path of the events.
