The Israel-Palestine conflict, which is one of the longest conflicts in the modern history, is one of the most important issues to shape Middle Eastern and world politics today. Since 1948, the conflict has gone through several phases shaped mainly by the wars between Arab States and Israel. Many peace plans were initiated, some of which ended up with peace agreements.
Although the Oslo Accords in 1993 was a promising turning point, the later developments (the second intifada 2000, the reoccupation of the West Bank in 2003, general elections and Hamas rising to the power 2006, the Hamas-Fatah division in 2007, and the series of attacks by Israel to the Gaza Strip) jeopardized the whole process raising questions about the feasibility of a two-state solution. Recently, the United States under the Trump administration has taken several initiatives, such as transferring the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, recognizing the united Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and the declaration of the Deal of Century, all of which appear to further deepen the conflict.
