The relations between Turkey and the United States have been unstable during recent years. Since the outbreak of the Syrian Civil War, preferences and interests of the two NATO allies have diverged on various issues related to security, economics, and foreign policy. Tensions in bilateral relations occasionally escalated to short-term crises, which were eventually resolved through high-level talks. The two countries continue to cooperate in different areas, while the persistence of major differences makes the future of Turkish-American relations uncertain.
