Minister Murtezani emphasized that there is no more important future goal and strategic direction for North Macedonia than full EU membership. He noted that this is of great significance not only for his country but also for stability, democracy, and prosperity throughout the region.
Murtezani expressed that the effort and determination they have shown in the integration process should be reciprocated by the EU with the same level of commitment and political will. He underlined the importance of ensuring a credible and attainable European perspective for the Balkan countries and beyond.
The Minister conveyed that although North Macedonia has consistently pursued the EU goal for a long time, it still remains in the union’s “waiting room” indefinitely, which negatively affects not only the institutions but also the hopes of the people. He pointed out that EU membership should be seen as a realistic target rather than an inaccessible one.
Reminding that Türkiye was among the first countries to recognize North Macedonia’s independence, Murtezani highlighted the deep historical, cultural, and economic ties between the two countries. Describing the relations with Türkiye as a “brotherly country,” the Minister stated that commercial relations have further developed in recent years.
Touching upon the bilateral issues with Bulgaria, Murtezani argued that the EU’s multilateral processes should not be sacrificed for bilateral matters and that the union should act within the framework of its own standards.
